Post2T - The post processing software

Post2T: Time Based Output.

Selecting to display "Noise Spectrum Processing" from the main menu opens the following dialog box:

Two types of outputs can be selected:

  1. Plot FFT - this calculates and displays the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the selected noise signal
  2. Plot Sound Pressure Level (SPL) - this calculates and displays the Sound Pressure Levels (SPL) of the selected noise signals and it also calculates the dB and dBA values for the total noise signal.

The position and distance of the microphone relative to the tailpipe can be specified.

FFT (Fast Fourier Transform)

SPL (Sound Power Level)

This graph shows the sound pressure level at each frequency as generated by the intake and exhaust system. This is for a 250 Grand Prix engine but only one cylinder was simulated. The interesting thing is the low frequency noise comes primarily from the intake (The black graph is much higher than the red one for the early part of the range).
